Connecticut River Byway
Council
Membership in the Connecticut River Byway
Council is open to any individual, corporation,
organization, community, or agency. The Byway
Council is hosted by the Connecticut River Joint
Commissions. Steering Committee members are
listed below.
Duties: The Steering Committee meets at least
four times a year to consider
Policy
- carry out the purposes of the Connecticut
River Byway Council;
- guide implementation of the Connecticut
River Byway Study
- develop guidance and criteria for elements
of the Byway, to assist communities and
organizations in planning Byway-related projects

- review and advise the Vermont Scenery
Preservation Council and the New Hampshire
Scenic and Cultural Byway Advisory Council on
funding applications;
- make policy decisions in furtherance of the
purposes of the Council.
Promotion
- foster joint promotion on the part of the
Connecticut River Byway states;
- provide forums, networks, and coordination
for local activities;
- develop promotional materials for the
Connecticut River Byway;
- oversee the selection of graphic
representations of the Connecticut River
Byway.
Stewardship
- foster protection of scenic and cultural
resources;
- encourage and support land use planning that
sustains the intrinsic qualities of the
Connecticut River Byway;
- educate hosts and guests in stewardship of
valley resources and assets;
- foster stewardship in all marketing
endeavors.
